TENT SAUNA BEGINNERS GUIDE Tent sauna beginners guide

You may have heard a lot about tent saunas lately, but you may be wondering what exactly is so appealing about them.
Tent saunas are rapidly gaining popularity among artists and creators.
Let me explain why it attracts so many people.

"Tent saunas" are popular at outdoor events and festivals

  • A total of 10 tent saunas will be lined up at "NF #12 -Sauna Camp.-" in Forests, Roads, Markets 2019.

A tent sauna is a "sauna anywhere" that can be enjoyed in any field by placing a wood stove inside the tent. It may look like an ordinary tent, but it's a super authentic sauna that can reach a maximum temperature of 120℃.

  • Tent saunas are becoming increasingly popular at festivals across Japan. People who are tired from dancing on the dance floor can refresh themselves in the sauna and cold bath before going back to dance. When they get tired, they often return to the sauna to relax... This loop is a common occurrence. Another great thing about tent saunas is how the atmosphere inside changes depending on the music.

Be enveloped in aromatic steam with "Loyly"

  • What sparked the popularity of saunas was the "löyly." By pouring aromatic water onto heated stones, the whole body is enveloped in a pleasant scent, the perceived temperature rises, and it becomes easier to sweat. Unlike a typical sauna, which is dry and stuffy, it is closer to a steam sauna and is characterized by its great comfort.

In the tent sauna, you can enjoy loyly to your heart's content. Please ask the people around you to give it a try. The soft aroma of the aromatherapy will caress your nose, and as you are enveloped in hot steam, your body will warm up from the inside out.

Cooling down and chilling out is the best part

  • Once your body is warmed up, you can cool down by getting into the water. This is actually the best part of the sauna! Cooling down your heated body feels so good. Floating in the water to cool down your heated body is so good you'll find yourself saying "Ahhh... it's the best..."!

It's okay to just dip your hands and feet in until you get used to it. If the water is too cold for you, you can just let the cool breeze blow on you. Cool down according to your preference and physical condition.

After getting out of the water, dry your body thoroughly and take a rest. This is the most relaxing moment, so enjoy it to the fullest. When you feel the wind blowing, your body and mind will mysteriously relax. In sauna terms, this state is called "totono".

A sense of resetting both the mind and body

  • Only those who have experienced it can understand the feeling of being "in tune" in a sauna. But once you've tasted it, you'll be hooked. Roughly speaking, it's a feeling of dazed comfort. When you reach a floating state where you can't think about anything, your mind and body become empty and reset.

When you do this, you will feel as if the sounds around you are clearer and the contrast in your field of vision has increased. Please try enjoying music in this state. You may feel that your hearing is a little different than usual.

  • "NF #12 -Sauna Camp.-" in Forest, Road, Market 2019 is designed to be enjoyable even for those who have never been to a sauna before. Whatever your reason, whether it's because you're a little curious and want to try it, what is it about saunas that attracts Team NF, or because it's cold, you're welcome to come. There will be staff at each tent, so please feel free to ask them anything you don't understand.

Listening to music while relaxing in the tent sauna and gazing at the Morimichi Market view from the tent window will surely be an unforgettable experience. Please come and visit us!

SAUNA Q & A

How long should I stay in a tent sauna?

As a guideline, it takes about 6 to 12 minutes. When your body is warm enough and you feel ready to enter the cold bath, that's the time to get out. It's not a test of endurance, just enjoy it at your own pace.

How many times should you enjoy a tent sauna?

If one set is "tent sauna, cold bath (pool), rest," the basic number is three sets. Doing too many sets at once will tire you out, so enjoy it in moderation. If you get tired from dancing on the floor, you can come back to refresh yourself. That's also a good way to enjoy it.

Can I wear something over my swimsuit?

No problem. You can enjoy the pool wearing a T-shirt, rash guard, yoga wear, towel gown, etc. over your swimsuit. However, it is difficult to warm up your body while wearing clothes, and your clothes will get wet from sweat and water vapor, so we recommend wearing a swimsuit.

Can customers do loyly?

Inside the tent sauna, there are buckets and ladles filled with aromatic water. Please give löyly a try. Be careful not to pour too much water, as it will become too hot. Before löyly, be sure to ask the people in the sauna with you, "May I löyly?"

I'm not good with cold baths, so I don't feel like I can take one...

There's no need to force yourself to get in. Once you get used to it, it feels great, and the cold water bath (pool) is an essential part of a sauna, but many people are hesitant at first. You don't have to get in the cold water. Just being blown by the cool breeze is fine, and even just dipping your hands and feet in water can feel good. Once you get used to it, try getting in up to your shoulders. You'll be able to experience the true joy of a sauna.

Do you have any tips for taking a comfortable break?

If your body remains wet, it will lose heat through evaporation and you will get colder and colder. The trick is to thoroughly dry yourself off with a towel after getting out of the water. Sit on a chair with a dry body and let the wind blow on you while you space out, and eventually you will feel a sense of relaxation.

Can I dance in the tent sauna?

It's dangerous, so don't do it. The tent sauna is heated with a wood stove, so if you get burned, it's a big problem. If you can't control your urge, get out of the tent sauna and dance in the pool!

Should you hydrate before or after the sauna?

Both are recommended. Be sure to hydrate yourself before and after entering the sauna. You will lose more fluids than you think when you enter the sauna. Be sure to consciously hydrate yourself to avoid becoming dehydrated. Two 300ml bottles of ion water will be given to you at the reception. If you are doing three sets, it would be best to drink the whole bottle.
Also, please refrain from using a sauna after drinking alcohol as it is dangerous.

Can I enter the sauna if I come empty-handed?

We plan to sell swimsuits for 1,500 yen for both men and women. Towels and sandals will also be available for rental, so you can enjoy the pool without having to prepare anything.
However, there are limited numbers of each, so it is best to bring your own swimsuit, towel and sandals.

Are the saunas separate for men and women?

Since bathing suits are required, there is no gender separation. Mixed-gender groups can use the pool together.
